How do we experience essential connection? Does it develop early, at a neurological level, with secure attachment?  Is it about connecting with our bodies? Can we discover it in relationship, or in therapy? Can it be found within ourselves, or in our spiritual practices?

Psychotherapy has emerged as a meeting ground for all of these aspects of our expererience, and this conference will explore their interplay. The Hakomi Method has, for decades, pioneered the psychodynamic, integrated use of mindfulness in somatic psychotherapy. Now, research has shown that mindfulness elicits the same changes in the brain as secure attachment in children. This deepening connection between the realms of science and spirit continues to inspire and enhance our work. The conference will explore these new discoveries in the field, as well as the ways we can cultivate essential connection - within ourselves, in healthy attachment and relationship, in therapy, and in community.

The conference is designed for both the Hakomi and Naropa University communities, and for all individuals practicing, studying, or interested in psychotherapy, counseling, body therapy, and related fields.
